Novak Djokovic made another step towards his goal of winning a gold medal by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in two sets 6-4 6-3.
The Serbian needed some time to figure out the German who was getting by with his great serve for the better part of the first set. Djokovic was not able to produce many chances but he was slowly waiting and reading Struff's game. By the end of the set Djokovic had things figured out and he broke Struff at the perfect time to close out the first set with 6-4.
He then proceeded to play even better as Struff was starting to feel nervous. That combination proved to be too much to overcome for Struff who found himself down 1-4 in the 2nd set. Djokovic exceptional all day long serving extremely well.
The Serbian had well over 10 aces which is something are not used to seeing from him until recently. Struff on the other hand did not have a lot of free points despite his great serve. He was also rather poor in crucial rallies no saving a single break point in the match.
A solid win for Djokovic against a tricky player to beat. The Serbian will be glad to move on in two in order to preserve as much energy as possible in the very harsh conditions of Tokyo.
