Novak Djokovic and Carlos Gomez-Herrera won their opening doubles match at the Mallorca Championships.
It was the first official match for Djokovic on the grass in 2021 and the Serbian continued where he left off in Paris. The Serbian paired up with native Gomez-Herrera and they overcame Brkic and Cacic in three sets. The first set was a very close one that was decided late when Brkic and Cacic broke their opponent to win the set 7-5.
Djokovic and his partner were to come back strong in the 2nd taking a break in the first game of the set. They held on to win the set 6-4 despite facing several break points at 5-4. Djokovic was superb serving under pressure and they were able to force the decider.
The decider was a spectacular one where Brkic and Cacic had an early 3-1 lead. Djokovic and Gomez-Herrera came back strong winning 5 points in a row to take a 6-3 lead before carving out a match point at 10-9. In the end, Djokovic and his partner won the decider with 13-11 to move on.
A good start for Djokovic who looked as great as ever on grass proving just how much of a difficult opponent he will be at Wimbledon.
