Melissa
Satta responded to the criticism about her relationship with Matteo Berrettini.
The
television presenter was married to German footballer Kevin Prince Boateng
between 2016 and 2020, during which time the former AC Milan player had to deal
with constant injury problems. Satta was accused of influencing her
ex-husband's injuries by having too much sex, and now her relationship with
Matteo Berrettini has received criticism amidst the Italian's recent injury
problems and drop in form in recent months.
'[They say]
"Berrettini doesn't win because Satta is distracting him, she's too
demanding"… But I held back,' Satta said.
“[This has
happened before] with my ex-husband [Boateng] who suffered from pubalgia,” she
added on her interview with Sports Ilustrated.
Berrettini's
last appearance on tour was at the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he had to retire
in the third round before his match against Holger Rune:
“[Berrettini’s
injury] is an injury in the same place as the one in 2021, when I didn't know
him. But in any case - do I really have to answer to these people?” Satta
concluded.
The 2021
Wimbledon finalist also spoke about the comments he receives about his
relationship and his drop in results.
“I cannot
conceive how a relationship can allow you not to do your job, but people talk,”
Berrrettini said.
“We live in
the era of social media, where everyone can say anything and it seems to me as
if general education has been lost. In the end, however, I am happy, this is
what matters,” world No. 21 added.

"Non sapevo che il tennis fosse uno sport. Pensavo fosse un gioco della Wii e basta. Poi con Matteo ho capito che è un grandissimo gioco, ma ancora non capisco perché se la palla finisce nel corridoio è out."
