Dominic Thiem played the best match since returning from a wrist injury to down
Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6(5) 3-6 6-4 securing the quarterfinal.
Thiem had struggled a lot since returning from a wrist injury but he is finding some form in Bastad. After a solid win over Ruusuvuori, Thiem finally played a match similar to his former self securing the quarterfinal final in Bastad. It's the first quarterfinal he will play since May of last year and it's one that should give him the confidence moving forward to do some great things.
It was a good match from Thiem but not flawless. He was down early in the opening set failing to find a good rhythm early but after finally getting into a rhythm he was able to battle back. The tiebreak was a close one but Thiem was able to outlast his opponent and win it 7-5. The 2nd set was much better by Bautista Agut who was able to bait Thiem into some cheap mistakes.
Despite dropping that set 3-6 Thiem remained vigilant in his approach never wavering from his aggressive playstyle. He was putting pressure on Bautista and eventually the Spanish player caved under it practically giving away a game on serve in the final set. After securing that break, Thiem kept up the pressure playing very confidently on his own serve closing out the match 6-4. A huge win for Thiem.
