The dream run continued for rising British star Jack Draper, who stunned third seed Karen Khachanov in their quarterfinal encounter at the Adelaide International II on Thursday.
Draper's serve played a huge role in his 6-4 7-6(3) victory, as he picked off from where he left off following his surprise round of 16 victory over eighth-seeded American Tommy Paul. Draper was just as impressive on serve in his quarterfinal match, hitting 10 aces while winning 80% of points behind his increasingly-reliable first serve.
The 21-year old saved the only break point faced in the opening set, and applied enough pressure to break Khachanov at the third time of asking. The second set saw Draper obtain an early break following some impressive return of serve, and the Brit served for the match at 5-3. However, Khachanov fought back to force a tiebreaker, where Draper's serve and return proved too much to overcome. The World No.40 closed out the match after an hour and 45 minutes, booking his spot in the semifinals.
Draper will face the winner between Swedish qualifier Mikael Ymer and lucky loser Soonwoo Kwon, as both men battle for a spot in a rare semifinal appearance.
