The 2022 Men's tennis event in Houston is being played under a new name but a strong field will nonetheless be present.
After some hard court action in North America players will have a chance to experience the only ATP clay event on North American soil. The event in Houston is a longstanding one with the 2022 edition being the 52nd in history. It's the first one since 2019 as the event was not held due to the pandemic. Cristian Garin is the defending champion and he will be back this year to try and defend his trophy despite being in terrible form.
Joining him will be several great tennis players including Ruud, Opelka, Fritz, Isner and more. As the first seed, Ruud has a 1st round BYE with either Galan or Querrey waiting in the 2nd round. 2nd seed Fritz also has a BYE and he will face either Munar or Tabilo in the 2nd round. Defending champion Garin will have a very tough job in the first round having to play former champion, Jack Sock.
Some other interesting matchups include Giron-Tiafoe which is a bomb of a 1st round matchup. Another American that will play is Mackie McDonald and he will face wild card entry Nick Kyrgios. It's the Australian's first clay match in forever but this is a harder type of clay, quite a bit faster than regular red clay. Check out the full draw below.
