Emma Raducanu retires in Rome against Andreescu due to back issues

Emma Raducanu dealt with back issues in Madrid but powered through however that did not happen today against Andreescu as she retired from the match.

Raducanu said before the event that her back is still giving her trouble but she was managing it. She did not add any further details but it seems like it was not enough as today she was forced to retire against Andreescu in the 2nd set. Raducanu did not play that well in this match despite starting off well and holding her serve. Andreescu played much better and it was clear that Raducanu was in trouble.

She eventually lost her serve giving Andreescu the 5-2 lead. By that point, Raducanu took an off-court MTO for her back issues. Andreescu finished off the set with 6-2 and Raducanu opted to initially continue after consulting the doctor again. Eventually, down 2-6 1-2 Raducanu retired from the match.
