Jannik Sinner provided a funny moment at the
Wimbledon awards ceremony after defeating
Carlos Alcaraz to claim his 4th Grand Slam title. The Italian avenged what happened in the Roland Garros final a month ago, breaking the Spaniard's 20-match winning streak at SW19.
At the recent French Open, the four-time Grand Slam champion did not have a close family member, his brother Marc, in his box. During the awards ceremony in Paris, after his loss, Sinner revealed the reason for his brother's absence. “A special thank you to my brother, who, rather than being here, is in Imola to watch Formula 1.”
However, this time, Marc was present in the box to support the World No. 1 in the tournament final. Perhaps it was a good luck charm for the 23-year-old tennis player, who avenged 5 consecutive losses against Alcaraz – including three consecutive finals – and secured his 4th major title, as well as his first at Wimbledon. “Special thanks to my brother because there’s no Formula 1 race this weekend. That’s why he’s here,” joked Sinner at the awards ceremony.
Sinner not only achieved his 4th Grand Slam title but also reignited the rivalry with Alcaraz, avenging his most bitter defeats over the past couple of seasons. Sinner narrows the head-to-head to 5-8, although even more remarkable is that he did it at the tournament where Alcaraz has performed best in his career so far, with a 24-3 record and coming off 20 consecutive wins.
