Alexander Zverev was filmed at the Rafael Nadal Academy as he aims to take his next steps towards the second half of the season after a pretty poor year. He could yet get a new coach in Toni Nadal it has been reported.
Nadal was spotted with Zverev in the videos of the World No.3 in Mallorca. He was dumped out in the opening round in five sets by Arthur Rinderknech at Wimbledon.
He started the year with the likelihood of becoming World No.1 but those hopes promptly faded as the German couldn't produce a good enough Golden Swing and Sinner returned despite having five months away to reclaim top spot.
Since then he has not regained his past form with the potential that he needs a rethink which is where Toni Nadal and even Rafael Nadal come in. He will head to Canada and US for the Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open and US Open in the coming weeks.
Sky Sport DE have reported through journalist Paul Hauser that he is training in Mallorca with Toni Nadal and he could yet become the new head coach of Zverev and that Rafael Nadal could act as a mentor to him.
Albeit whether anything comes of it remains to be seen. It was heavily rumoured for some time that he would be coached by Boris Becker but it never quite came to fruition and in the past he has been coached by his father Alexander Zverev Sr. as well as Sergi Bruguera.
"I know I'm not making myself popular in the Zverev camp," said Rittner on Matchball Becker. "But perhaps he will get some impetus from outside. But the impetus from outside only comes when dad and [Zverev’s brother] Mischa hold back and let someone else take the lead."
"He had [Ivan] Lendl, [Juan Carlos] Ferrero, [David] Ferrer and [Sergi] Bruguera. It doesn't get much better than that. But they were all always embedded with his father and his brother. And I don't think anyone new will come along in this constellation."
"The question is: What does Sascha want? Is he satisfied with being No. 2 in the world? Is he satisfied with an outstanding tennis career to date? Or is he saying that he wants to try again and turn everything upside down?"
