American tennis star
Sofia Kenin’s
downfall continues as now she is sitting on the verge of a seeded spot for the
2024
Australian Open. The 25-year-old has had a tough
time in the recent past where she struggled with fitness concerns. It was
because of this reason she missed two Grand Slams in 2022.
As per the latest report, Kenin is
now sitting on the verge of a seeded spot for the 2024 edition of the first Grand
Slam of the year. The Florida-born won the competition back in 2020 after
defeating Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in the final with a score of 4–6, 6–2, 6–2.
After that, Kenin did not manage to
qualify for the third round or beyond at the Australian Open. Her other impressive
outing in a major event came at the French Open where she came as a runner-up
in the 2020 edition after losing to current world number one Poland’s Iga
Swiatek.
In 2023, Kenin managed to play in the
main round of three out of the four Grand Slams. However, she could not
manage to qualify for the fourth round or beyond in any of the events.
Her best outing came while playing
at Wimbledon where she was knocked out after losing the third round to Ukraine’s
Elina Svitolina with a score of 7-6, 6-2.
