Expressing her surprise, the current world number three posted an interesting response in a story on her official Instagram account.
“lol good to know PEOPLE thinks I'm intriguing. I'm really not. I just like to crochet, watch anime, and play Fortnite all day when I am not practicing or working,” she said. “But I appreciate the shoutout haha it's pretty cool being on this list among actual intriguing people.”
Gauff lived up to the hype in 2023 as she won the first Grand Slam after beating the world number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the US Open with a score of 2–6, 6–3, 6–2.
Other than that, she also played in the quarterfinal of the French Open, where she lost to world number one Poland’s Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Gauff ended the year on a bit of a high as she managed to qualify for the semifinal of the WTA Finals but lost to fellow American Jessica Pegula.
