Roger Federer defeated Tennys Sandgren in the quarterfinal at the 2020 Australian Open in a stunning 5-set match

Ahead of the quarterfinal match against Tennys Sandgren, Federer joked about his opponent's name when he said: "I have never played against Tennys. I have played a lot of tennis in my life, but never against Tennys.” However, the match was not so much fun for the Swiss.
He started the match ideally when he earned the first set 6-3 after just 35 minutes. But Sandgren fought back in the second and third when he managed to win both sets 6-2 in a bit more than an hour. Federer was already 2-1 down and he needed to perform another come back in Melbourne.
In the 4th set, Federer faced 3 match points on his service game in the 10th game. He managed to turn them away but he faced another 4 match points in the tie-break. But he turned also those away to win 10-8 in the tie-break and force 5th decisive set.
There Federer showed his best tennis again. Converting his 3rd breakpoint, Roger got 4-2 lead which he later did not lose. He has won the 5th set 6-3 and advanced into the semifinals. He will find out who will be his opponent in the following match in the Rod Laver Arena when Novak Djokovic will meet Milos Raonic.
