Felix Auger-Aliassime takes down Alexander Zverev in ATP Cup, sends Canada into the semifinals

Team Canada is cruising in the ATP Cup thanks to the stellar play of both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov.

Neither player played for Canada at the Davis Cup Finals a month ago but both could not wait to represent their country at the ATP Cup. And they are doing it in brilliant fashion with Felix Auger-Aliassime especially impressive. The Canadian scored a huge victory against Alexander Zverev in the ATP in a match that had no meaning for the Germans.

Despite that, Zverev tried fairly hard and was keen on winning the match but ultimately he failed to do it. The first set was a very close one where two games essentially decided the match. Auger-Aliassime played a brilliant first came to break Zverev early in the match. He served pretty well throughout the set and held his lead.

After winning the first set with 6-4 Auger continued applying pressure on Zverev but the German was able to keep him away from break points with some good serves. At 3-3, Auger had 3 consecutive ones but he once again failed to convert them. He lost his serve in the next to give Zverev the 5-3 lead but broke back immediately after that. However, Zverev did the same to close out the set with 6-4.

In the final set, we once again saw a very patient and focused Auger-Aliassime who waited for his chance and when he finally got it, he used it. 6-3 was the final score of the 3rd ser and with the win, Canada secured a spot in the semifinal of the ATP Cup.
