Wimbledon 2023 began on Monday where the round of 128 took
place and a number of players have already booked their place in the next
round.
One of them was the defending champion
Novak Djokovic who registered
a comprehensive win against Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in straight sets with a
score of 6-3, 6-3, 7-6.
It was the 36-year-old’s consecutive 29th win in
the competition, an impressive feat to say the least. Despite those impressive
numbers, there have been players who have managed to trouble the current world
number two in London. We will take a look at some of them in this article.
5. Marat Safin
Fifth in the list features former world number one Marat
Safin. The 43-year-old faced Djokovic just once in Wimbledon back in 2008 where
he secured a thumping straight-set victory with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-2.
Next in the list is America’s Sam Querrey. The 35-year-old
faced Djokovic just once in the competition, back in round three in the 2016
edition, where he defeated him with a score of 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.
Third in the list features Roger Federer. The former world
number one defeated Djokovic just once in four meetings in the competition but
every time, he put on a real show for the fans. His only victory against the
legendary Serbian tennis star came way back in the semifinal in 2012 with a
score of 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-3.
Second in the list features Britain’s Andy Murray. The
36-year-old got the better of Djokovic in the final of the 2013 edition in straight
sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.
1. Tomas Berdych
First in the list features Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych. The
37-year-old is the last player to defeat the Serbian tennis star in Wimbledon which
was back in the quarterfinals stage in 2017. That was not the first time when Berdych
got the better of the current world number two as he also defeated him back in the
semifinal in the 2010 edition in straight sets with a score of 6-3 7-6(9) 6-3.
He remains the only player to defeat Djokovic twice in the competition.
