Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan now finding success in tennis

Diego Forlan is a renowned name in the world of football. The 45-year-old played professional football for over two decades and finally retired in 2019. However, interestingly, Forlan is now playing professional tennis. The former Uruguay international is currently playing in Peru at the MT1000 tournament for players aged 45 or above.
As per Flash Score, the legendary footballer has already booked his place in the third round. In the first round, he beat Chile's Gonzalo Carreno in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-2. In the second round, former Manchester United striker Jorge Hernandez of Peru scored 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets.
Forlan remains one of the most successful strikers from Uruguay to have ever played. He finished his career after scoring 36 goals and 13 assists in 112 matches across different competitions. The Montevideo-born played for numerous big clubs in Europe. He joined Premier League giants Manchester United in 2002 for €11 million from Independiente. His next big move was from Spanish side Villarreal to Atletico Madrid in 2007 for a reported transfer fee of €21 million.
In his career, Forlan’s most successful tenure came while playing for Atletico Madrid, where he scored 96 goals and provided 31 assists in 198 appearances across all competitions. In the 2008-09 season, Forlan scored 32 goals for Atletico and provided 10 assists. It was his best season in club football.
His second-best season in club football came in the 2004-05 season when he scored 25 goals in 38 appearances. In both of those seasons, Forland scored the most goals in the league competition.
Forlan also won some silverware in club football. He won the Premier League title in the 2002-03 season for Manchester United. In 2004, he lifted the FA Cup with the Red Devils. In the 2009-10 season, Forlan played a key role in helping Atletico win the La Liga title, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists in 33 matches.
