The
WTA stars are set to kick off the grass-court swing with the Berlin Ladies
Open, one of the two tournaments held in Germany on the road to
Wimbledon. The
tournament will take place from June 17 to June 23, and the
prize money and
points breakdown have been confirmed for this highly competitive WTA 500 event.
With
only three weeks of grass-court tournaments available before the third Grand
Slam of the year, the
Berlin Ladies Open is the first WTA 500 event that offers
top players a crucial opportunity to find their rhythm on European grass and
arrive in top form at the All England Club.
Berlin is looking for a new champion
The
tournament boasts a prize pool of $922,573, featuring a draw of 32 players,
including former champions
Liudmila Samsonova and
Ons Jabeur. Unfortunately,
the 2023 winner
Petra Kvitova will not be competing as she is out for the
remainder of the season due to maternity leave.
The
draw promises to be highly competitive, with a significant portion of the top
10 players contending for the title, including recent French Open champion Iga
Swiatek,
Coco Gauff,
Aryna Sabalenka, and
Elena Rybakina.
Players
who are eliminated in the first round of the tournament will earn 1 ranking
point and receive $8,860, while those who reach the second round will gain 60
WTA ranking points and a sum of $13,170.
