Jannik Sinner received a flood of congratulations from his peers after clinching the title at the 2024 Australian Open. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, and Matteo Berrettini are among the stars who conveyed their messages to Sinner through social media.
The 22-year-old prodigy staged a comeback in a match that seemed sealed in favor of Daniil Medvedev, but Sinner's response in the third set secured his first Grand Slam, making him the second Italian man to achieve this feat since 1976.
Sinner displayed an almost flawless performance throughout much of the tournament in Melbourne, although the final proved to be the most challenging for the world No. 4. The Russian dominated the first two sets, and the third set remained evenly matched until 4-4, where the Italian revived hope with a crucial break. Sinner turned around an incredible match that ended 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3.
Unfortunately for Medvedev, this is not the first time he has lost in the Australian Open final, with previous defeats against Novak Djokovic in 2021 and Rafael Nadal in 2022.
Sinner's remarkable triumph brings to mind the outcome of the match with Nadal, where the Spanish player also came back from two sets down to claim the trophy. The 22-times Grand Slam champion was one of those who extended his congratulations to Sinner:
“Great Jan, very well done! 👏🏻 Beautiful tournament, your first Grand Slam!!! 🏆 Warm greetings to you, your team, your family, and all of Italy that won today with you 🇮🇹”
The 10-times Aussie Open champion, Novak Djokovic, who was eliminated in the semifinals against Sinner, sent his congratulations to the Italian and also to Medvedev for his outstanding tournament:
Some contemporaries of Sinner also conveyed their greetings, including Carlos Alcaraz and the female world No. 1, Iga Swiatek, among others:
“What a match, what a fight. Congrats @janniksin
“I am so happy for you Jannik! You deserve it more than anyone! Enjoy the moment my friend!”
