Team USA had the strongest team in the
United Cup and they will be champions as Fritz secured the trophy with a win over
Matteo Berrettini 7-6(4) 7-6(6).
Team USA brought four top 20 level players to the United Cup and it proved the right decision as they dominated their way to the trophy. It was Italy in the final and they had no chance. The first match was won by Jessica Pegula who defeated Martina Trevisan 6-4 6-2 for the first point. The second point was won by Frances Tiafoe after Lorenzo Musetti retired down 2-6.
The final point needed to be won by
Taylor Fritz and the American delivered on that by beating Matteo Berrettini in a very close match. Frtiz was marvellous in this match as he didn't face a single break point in the opening set. Berrettini faced plenty but dragged himself to a tiebreak where he was outplayed.
The second set was quite similar as Fritz once again didn't face a single break point while Berrettini saved 5. The tie-break was a bit closer this time around but it was Fritz who got it done in the end. An amazing event for Team USA as all players delivered. Fritz finished the event 7-1, Pegula 8-1, Tiafoe 7-0 and Keys 4-0.
