Taylor Fritz proved quite comfortable in his first-ever match at the
ATP Finals beating Nadal 7-6(3) 6-1 to win the match.
It was a fairly interesting match because it opened quite well for both players. The quick conditions gave both players a chance to set the tone after the first serve. It worked well for both, especially Fritz who had his devastating serve firing on all cylinders. Nadal was forced to save break points a couple of times in the opening set but he was able to get to the tiebreak.
A double fault by the Spaniard opened it and he could only watch as Fritz took a 3-0 lead. That was more than enough for the American to close out the first set 7-3 behind 7 aces and 16 winners. He only had 5 unforced errors so everything was working really well for him.
The second set was total demolition as Fritz relaxed his hand and it was blasting strong shots all across the court with Nadal no solution. Fritz has always given Nadal some trouble and this was always going to be a very tough matchup for him. It finished with a 6-1 scoreline in the second set.
