Andy Murray will return to tennis in a stunning move as he will coach his previous Big Four rival, Novak Djokovic starting in the off season before the Australian Open.

Djokovic has not had a permanent coach since the spring of 2024 when he dispensed of Goran Ivanisevic after six years together. After shock losses in particular to Luca Nardi at Indian Wells, he decided for a new tact in his career.

But he decided not only to dispense of Ivanisevic but also half of his coaching staff with many of whom going over to join Jannik Sinner's team who usurped him as World No.1 and the current king of tennis.

Amid all of that, Andy Murray was taking his final bow in tennis and he retired from professional tennis in the summer. He has been calculated in his post tennis career making up for lost time with his family and also playing golf in which he has become pretty handy at. But he will now return to Australia but not as a player. He will now work with his biggest rival ahead of the first Slam of next season.

Djokovic said as reported by The Scottish Sun: "I am excited to have one of my greatest rivals on the same side of the net as my coach. Looking forward to starting the season and competing in Australia alongside Andy with whom I have shared many exceptional moments on the Australian soil.”

Murray himself was pretty honest about the fact that he was more likely to go into coaching than punditry and he will now try to impart some of his secrets on the great Serbian. Also a rivalry that has spawned friendship and with Murray starting his coaching career, it is a big boost for him if it goes well.

“I’m going to be joining Novak’s team in the off season, helping him to prepare for the Australian Open," said Murray.

“I’m really excited for it and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping him to achieve his goals.”
