Gael Monfils has been on the tour for a very long time and now he became the 11th active player to reach 500 ATP tour-level wins.
The career of Gael Monfils is a fascinating one as the Frenchman burst onto the scene as a super talented player that showed a lot of promise. His career did not end up as great as many projected it to be but the Frenchman is still considered a legend of this sport simply by the way he is on the court.
Now he did complete a huge milestone by winning his 500 ATP tour-level match, something done only by 10 other active players. The win came at the Western & Southern Open and over Alex De Minaur 6-3 7-5 continuing a great run for Monfils lately.
On getting the milestone he said:
"I feel great. Obviously, I'm happy to get the 500th win under my belt. It's a great achievement and I'm very proud. It's a blessing and I'm very happy about it."
Monfils wasn't aware he was nearing 500 which he eaborated by saying:
"It's been a while I've been playing. To be honest, just before coming here, I didn't really know that I was that close and now 500, if I think about it, it's a big number. It's been a lot of wins over the years. I never thought that when I started I would be at that amount of wins."
