Belgium won the first tie at the 2019 Davis Cup Finals in Madrid against Colombia when they won both singles matches, but lost in doubles.
It was a quick start for Belgium as Steve Darcis opened the day at Stadium 3 with a quick victory over Santiago Giraldo 6-3 and 6-2.
However, in the second match, Daniel Elahi Galan managed to take set from Goffin, what nobody expected. Goffin lost the first set 3-6, but was able to come back in 2nd and 3rd to add 2nd point to Belgium's account.
But the biggest Colombian weapon was hidden in doubles. World number 1's Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah faced Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen. Although, Cabal & Farah lost the first set 7-6, they were able to turn the match in another very close sets which they won 6-4 and 7-6.
After winning the second point for Belgium, Goffin said: "The challenge was to fight against myself, it was not easy. Sometimes you have to fight, sometimes you have the flow and you fly. I’m happy the way I fought, I didn’t give up, because that’s the most important thing because I’m playing for my country."
