Details about the contract of the former coach of Serbia’s
legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic have emerged. The 37-year-old is already
regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles
category in the Open era.
One of the best time of Djokovic’s career came under former Wimbledon
winner
Goran Ivanisevic. The two recently parted ways after working together
for six years. However, details have emerged about Ivanisevic's contract with
the former world number one. According to a report from the Serbian media outlet
Alo, the one-time Grand Slam winner earned around £2.5 million while working with
Djokovic.
Djokovic won 30 titles while working with Ivanisevic. The
Belgrade-born star won three Australian Opens, three Wimbledon’s, two French
Opens, two US Opens, two ATP Finals, and seven ATP Tour Masters while working
with the former Croatian tennis player.
Ivanisevic, after parting ways with Djokovic, was quoted in
a report by Tennis Majors, where he talked in detail how challenging it was to
work with the current world number three. He compared working with Djokovic as
working as a manager of Spanish football giants Real Madrid where nothing short
of winning the title actually matters.
"Well, it was exciting, a great honour, a big
responsibility, I am very proud,” he said. “It was turbulent, not regarding our
collaboration, but turbulent because of everything that happened. However, I am
eternally grateful to Novak, he offered me an opportunity and I made the most
of that opportunity. The results speak for themselves, no one can ever take
them away or erase them, they are written in black and white. All in all, five
wonderful years."
