Andy Murray has been outspoken about the need to get vaccinated publicly backing vaccine mandates for tennis players.
Not many of his contemporaries share his views with tennis being one of the slowest professional sports to promote vaccination amongst its athletes. The reason was rather simple, the vast majority of the top athletes were not exactly thrilled about with many delaying it for as long as possible. If it weren't for the Australian Open imposing a vaccine mandate, the vast majority of them probably would not have gotten vaccinated.
Andy Murray has been critical of that in the past while also accepting that it is ultimately a personal choice. Before his flight to Australia, Murray opted to take a 'booster shot' confirming it on Twitter. The way he did it though raised many eyebrows as Murray publicly mocked the conspiracy theorists that have presented the vaccines as a means to inject 'microchips' into humans. Murray wrote:
"Got my 3rd microchip injected into me today."
He did turn a more serious tone in the next thanking science, doctors and health care workers for their work during the pandemic:
"Science is the best. Thank you, scientists, thank you doctors and health care workers for the incredible work you are doing."
