Russia’s tennis star
Daniil Medvedev suffered yet another heartbreak while playing at the Miami Open. The current world number four lost to
Italy’s tennis star
Jannik Sinner in the semifinal of the recently concluded
ATP 1000 event with a score of 6-1, 6-2 on Friday.
While many would claim that reaching a semifinal cannot be
considered a disappointing performance, Medvedev would think otherwise.
The 28-year-old’s record since the US Open 2023 is showing a
dangerous pattern, something he would like to change going into the next phase
of the season.
Since the fourth and final Grand Slam of last year, Medvedev
has played nine times against the top three players — Serbia’s Novak, Spain’s Carlos
Alcaraz and Sinner — but has only managed to register one win and suffered
eight defeats.
However, his record while playing against the other players
in the top 10 remains impressive where in the same time frame, he has registered
eight wins and suffered no defeats.
Medvedev will be hoping that he can turn things around
before the start of the French Open where he would be hoping to put on a better
show compared to what he did in 2023.
The Moscow-born has finished runner-up in the previous two
Grand Slams. At the US Open last year, he lost to Djokovic in the final with a
score of 3–6, 6–7(5–7), 3–6.
Later in the Australian Open earlier this year, he once
again finished on the losing side, this time against Sinner, in a five-set
thriller with a score of 6–3, 6–3, 4–6, 4–6, 3–6.
