The magnificent trio of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer are all in the race for different ATP records and Henman and Rusedski gave their opinions.
There are several ATP records at stake in this time which are all desired by Djokovic, Nadal and Federer. The Spaniard tied Federer for the most Grand Slam wins at 20 but Djokovic is not far behind at 17. Federer has spent the most weeks as world number one (310) but Djokovic is closely behind with 297. Federer is only six titles away from tying Jimmy Connors for most titles ever (109) with Nadal and Djokovic all in pursuit.
Former world number 4 Tim Henman said of the race:
"I think they’re career-defining. When you look at this era, this generation of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, some of the records they’ve set are absolutely incredible. I think it’s a huge motivating factor for all of them but especially Djokovic. He’s sort of grown-up as this underdog and has been battling against Federer and Nadal for such a long time, some of these records he’s trying to break."
Another former British number one Greg Rusedski said:
"The number one goal for them is to finish No. 1 at the end of the year and have the most majors in their pockets."
However you look at it, it is a fascinating time for tennis and this race will continue in the 2021 season when Roger comes back. We can't wait.
