Australia’s tennis star
Alex de Minaur stated that Serbia’s Novak
Djokovic is ‘probably’ the greatest of all time in the sport.
The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest in the
history of tennis in the men’s singles category in the Open era, having won as
many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
De Minaur has recently been quoted in a report where he
heaped praise on Djokovic and called him the ‘GOAT’ player in tennis.
"Yeah, look, it's no secret
Novak Djokovic's level,
it's incredible, and he's probably the GOAT, if we're honest,” he said. “So he
started the year strong. It's going to be obviously extremely tough, but it
will be a challenge that I'll be looking forward to to hopefully going out
there and show what I can do.”
Djokovic, who is currently taking part in the United Cup
where he is a part of the team Serbia, is coming into the season on the back of
an impressive time on the court in 2023 where he ended up winning three out of
four Grand Slam titles.
His only defeat last season in a major tournament came in
the final at Wimbledon where he came second-best against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz
in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
