Carlos Alcaraz has won in a very tough three-set match against Jannik Sinner in the final of the Beijing Tournament (China Open 2024) in a duel that could have been won by anyone.
The player from Murcia, after the match, said something that is rare to hear, that the opponent he has just beaten is the best in the world.
“It was a really close match. Jannik once again showed he’s the best player in the world… at least for me. The level he’s playing… It’s unbelievable.. really high quality of tennis physically, mentally.. he’s a beast," said Alcaraz.
Sinner had won 18 out of his last 19 tiebreaks. But Alcaraz didn't lose hope. “No I didn’t lose hope. But I knew the stats.. I didn’t lose hope but I thought ‘ok I have to give everything I have to give myself the chance to be close.’ I played great points to get it to 3 all. After that I just thought to go for it. If I lose it, at least I went for it. That’s all I thought in that moment.”
