Hewitt tried to get Kyrgios into Davis Cup team but money came first with Saudi exhibition worth six figures

Lleyton Hewitt tried to get Kyrgios to play the Davis Cup but the Australian prioritized his own singles career over the competition.

Kyrgios enjoys playing for Australia yet the Australian is aware that his tennis career and popularity will not last forever. He elected to take part in the exhibition in Saudia Arabia which should earn him plenty of cash as opposed to the Davis Cup.

Hewitt admitted after the final that he tried to get Kyrgios in but it didn't happen:

“I don’t know. You have to ask him. I can’t try any harder. I try and come here with the best possible team we could field.”

When a fan asked de Minaur why Kyrgios did not play, the man himself replied to him saying:

“About to go to Saudi for 6 figures actually.”
