The 2022 ATP season saw several records set and milestones achieved, with numerous players surpassing expectations as they captured titles and moved up the ATP Ranking table.
Outside of surprise trophy winners and resurgent superstars, a metric for player success was their movement up or down the rankings. Although some countries featured players who made great individual improvements, the United States as a whole saw a cumulative movement of players into the world's top players.
With the 2022 season done and dusted, it was discovered that nine Americans finished the year ranked inside the ATP Top 50; the most since 1996 and the most of any country in 2022.
Leading the charge is Taylor Fritz, who finished they year at a career-high ranking of World No.9. Not only did Fritz make his Top 10 debut, but 25-year old also captured his maiden Masters 1000 title in Miami earlier this year and qualified for the season ending ATP finals.
Frances Tiafoe stunned the tennis world with his impressive play in 2022, especially during the second half of the season where he ended the year ranked 19th. The 24-year old reached the US Open semifinal for the first time in his career, and was instrumental for Team World's victory during the Laver Cup. He paired with compatriot Jack Sock to defeat the team of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the doubles event, and sealed his team's victory with a thrilling win over Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas.
