Danish tennis star
Holger Rune admitted to taking some liberties at the expense of Serbian colleague
Novak Djokovic, during Denmark's group stage encounter with Serbia at the ongoing UEFA European Football Championships.
Denmark battled Serbia in a pivotal Group A clash that ended in a 0-0 draw. Nonetheless, the result was enough for the Danes to advance to the knockout stage, as they finished second in the group. Conversely, Serbia was eliminated, finishing in last place as England topped the group.
Rune reveals he and Djokovic exchanged messages during the match
Although the 24-time Grand Slam champion flew to Munich to attend the match in person, his presence was not enough to see his country through to the next round. Rune, who defeated Karen Khachanov 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday in an exhibition match in London in preparation for
Wimbledon, stated he had spoken with Djokovic regarding the match.
"Obviously I sent him a message," said the World No.15. "We're still friends so that's fine! He went to Munich. We even thought about going together. I don't know how to describe the match but at least we managed to qualify for the round of 16 and so I'm happy."
