Holger Rune continues to struggle with his tennis as the Danish player lost to Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-3 3-6 2-6.
Holger Rune played fabulous tennis at Roland Garros to beat native the reigning finalist at that time Stefanos Tsitsipas but that would be the final match he would win. It happened on May 30th and since then Rune has not won a single match.
7 consecutive defeats for the Danish player on two different surfaces clearly indicates something is wrong. He's playing quite loose tennis which is not unusual for him as he usually tends to do but it's not working. He's not playing the most important rallies well and he's missing a lot.
The youngster is also quite nervous with outbursts even when things are going his way. The start of the match today seemed good for him as he took the opening set 6-3. The 2nd set was not as good from Rune as the Spaniard finally found his rhythm. Zapata players very aggressively and is super quick around the court making him a nightmare to play against.
Rune certainly experienced that and in the final set, he had to deal with issues with his legs as well. Overall, Zapata took control of the match playing very deep returns and attacking every shorter ball. A bad defeat for Rune but perhaps the hard courts in North America will be better for him.
