All about the finish 🏁 @holgerrune2003 recovers from 2-5 down in the first set to see off Lehecka 7-6 6-3 and reach the @BMWOpen2022 second round!
Holger Rune won his first-round match in Munich setting up a round 2 clash against Alexander Zverev that will be a proper delight.
The Danish player is playing very good tennis lately and that's not a surprise. He is naturally orientated more towards clay than any other surface. He has a lot of talent and it was only a matter of time before he was going to start playing strong tennis. It came after a confidence-building challenger triumph before the Monte-Carlo Masters where he also played well.
In Belgrade, he ran into Taro Daniel and the Japanese player proved a bit better but overall it's been a positive run for RUne. He started well in Munich today as well beating Jiri Lehecka 7-6(4) 6-3. Lehecka has been in stellar form as well lately taking down a couple of great players and reaching the Belgrade Open quarterfinal.
It was a shaky start for Rune as the Czech player jumped out to an early 3-1 lead. Rune got the break back but Lehecka once again broke his opponent for a 5-2 lead. Lehecka lost his serve when he served for the set at 5-4 and actually, he fell behind 5-6 with Rune serving for the set. The Dane lost his serve as well and in the tiebreak, it was Rune who proved better 7-4.
After pulling out that set, he played much better in the 2nd set as Lehecka fell behind 0-3 early in the 2nd set. He barely hung on for the 1-3 score but it was evident that RUne was in complete control of the match. He went off the finish the job with 6-3.
