Holger Rune achieved quite a feat today by winning two matches at two differen events in two different countries in one day.
The first match came at the Sanremo challenger earlier in the day where Rune had to play three sets to emerge victoriously and win the event. He then had to travel about 40 kilometres west to the Monte-Carlo Country Club to play the 1st round qualifying match against Radu Albot. While the Masters event carries the name of the famed Monegasque ward, the courts are actually located in France.
That means that Rune played two matches a couple of hours apart in two different countries. The 2nd match was the better one for Rune as he looked completely locked in from the start. Albot is not a strong clay player and it was rather evident as the Danish player quickly established control of the match. He raced to a 6-2 1st set finish and finished off the match with 6-3 in the 2nd set.
Quite a memorable day for the Danish talent who will continue his quest for the main draw tomorrow with the 2nd round match of the qualifiers.
