Patrick Mouratoglou was full of praise for Novak Djokovic after his player (Rune) defeated the Serbian in the final.
Djokovic and Rune played in the 2022 Paris Masters final with the Danish player getting the win in three sets. Mouratoglou was present and he was able to guide Rune through the final getting the trophy in the end.
In an interview after the match, Mouratoglou was asked whether his familiarity with Serbian players helped him prepare Rune for the match:
"I don't know if you can categorize Novak as a Serbian tennis player. Of course, he's Serbian, but I think he's much more than Serbian. He's an exceptional champion. Maybe the greatest. We'll see."
Mouratoglou prepared many times with Serena Williams for various types of players from Serbia so he knows how they operate. He further added:
"So it's probably, to play Novak in a final of a tournament is probably the greatest challenge possible. The only way to prepare a match against him is to have a very clear plan and be able to manage one's emotions and manage all the situations you will have to go through. We went through so many different scenarios during this match."
And concluded with:
"Holger has been able to find answers most of the time. That's why he ended up winning. But I don't think you can teach anyone to win against Novak. You have to have something special and something extra, and he definitely has."
