Rafael Nadal pulled off a superhuman performance to defeat
Daniil Medvedev in the final of the
Australian Open last month, and his antics have left WTA legend
Chris Evert still wondering how the Spaniard was able to achieve the incredible feat.
After dropping the first two sets to Medvedev, Nadal looked to be heading for another runner-up finish. However, the 35-year old displayed his championship spirit, digging deep to pull off an extraordinary comeback and win his 21st Grand Slam title in style.
"Still mulling over Rafa’s win at the @AustralianOpen How on earth did he win that????" Evert wrote on Twitter.
There was a lot of doubt surrounding Nadal's participation at Melbourne Park, as the 2009 champion only played in one tournament during the second half of the 2021 season due to a foot injury. However, he ultimately decided to fly to Australia, winning the Melbourne Summer Set event before clinching the Australian Open title.
