Jack Draper was playing one hell of a match against
Hubert Hurkacz but he was once more betrayed by his body in a 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 1-6 defeat.
This match was hugely important for Hubert Hurkacu who is fighting for a spot at the ATP Finals and this win is a huge one. It's a huge one because his opponent was a very tricky one and one that looked like on the verge of a comeback.
From the start, it was a typical indoor match with not many chances. Draper had a break points early in the match while Hurkacz had them late. As neither converted we went into a tiebreak and Hurkacz nearly threw away a 5-1 lead but held to win 7-5.
The second set opened with Draper having some early issues and falling behind but he was able to fight back and make it 3-3. He then held from 15-40 down a few games later to force a tiebreak and win it 7-2 with some superb play.
Everybody expected an epic final set but it did not happen as Draper started to cramp and while largely unable to play at all, he elected to fight on and ultimately bowed out 1-6. Shame for Draper whose body betrayed him a couple of times already this year.
