Hubert Hurkacz closed the ATP Race to the ATP Finals with today's win over James Duckworth in Paris 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-5.
It was a very entertaining match between Hurkacz and Duckworth and it was the Pole was able to secure the win in the end. It's a very important win for Hurkacz who officially qualified for the ATP Finals with it. The start was brilliant by the Pole as he had every answer for what Duckworth tried to do. He served much better and his groundstrokes were very precise.
The Australian could not find a hole in the Pole's game and Hurkacz ran away with the first set 6-2. The 2nd set featured much improved play by Duckworth who mixed up his play. He came to the next more often and played some drop shots. It proved efficient in holding his serve while he also encountered a slight drop-off from Hurkacz. He took a 4-2 lead but the Pole brought it back.
In the end, the 2nd set was settled in the tiebreak with Duckworth simply showing more fight in it. Hurkacz was a bit too careless and he paid the price. We went into the 3rd set and it was a very good tightly contested one. Both players played well and it was only fairly late that Hurkacz was starting to show he was the better player.
In the end it culimated iwth a chance later at 6-5 to close it out and he was able to do it. With the win he became the final player to officially qualify for hte ATP Finals in Turin.
