Casper Ruud raced past Marcos Giron 6-2 6-1 in the previous round of the Paris Masters and with that, he made history again.
Casper Ruud is making a habit of making history in tennis this season especially as his nation, Norway, does not have a longstanding history in tennis. The Norwegian made history earlier in the year by becoming the first Norwegian to enter the top 10. Now, after securing his 5th ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinals in 2021, he made some more.
He becomes the first Norwegian to ever secure a place at the
ATP Finals which will be held in Turin this year. After the match he said:
"It’s been an unbelievable year that will have the perfect end to the season. It’s been a stressful couple of weeks and months,
because it’s been such a tight Race [To Turin]. It’s been fun at the
same time [and] so exciting to watch as a tennis fan.”
Ruud will be joined by Hubert Hurkacz in Turin with the Pole securing the final place at the event after Sinner and Norrie suffered early exits in Paris. It's been two great seasons for those two players and both will be able to play at the ATP Finals for the first time in their careers.
