A brilliant tie between Russia and the US was played in the first Billie Jean King Cup semifinal with Russian eventually taking the win.
Three matches in total were played as both singles matches went to each nation. The deciding point was secured in the doubles by the Russian who had no issues in winning that match. In the first match, we saw Samsonova take on Stephens and it was a very good match. Sloane jumped out to a brilliant start smashing her opponent 6-1 in the first set.
Samsonova would come back to win the 2nd set with 6-4 The Russian player was playing very attacking from the start but early in the match most of her groundstrokes were missing. In the 2nd set, she finally found some rhythm and that allowed her to it 6-4. She played her best tennis in the 3rd set where she was able to wear down

The 2nd match topped the first one by a mile as it lasted close to three hours. It was very closely contested between Pavlyuchenkova and Collins with both of the first two sets ending in tiebreaks. The first set was an epic one that saw many twists and turns with a crazy finish in the tiebreak. Anastasia was able to win it 11-9. In the 2nd set, it was Collins who proved better in the tiebreak 7-2.
The final set featured stellar play from Collins who thrashed a tired Pavlyuchenkova 6-2. The deciding point was won by Kudermetova and Samsonova who proved better than Rogers and Vandeweghe. The Russian combination were on top from the start winning it 6-3 6-3.
