Daniil Medvedev took the courts at the ATP cup today taking on Ugo Humbert from France. The Russian had the chance to clinch the tie for his nation as Safiullin delivered the first point against Rinderknech earlier. It was a very close match with the first set going to a tiebreak ultimately won by Medvedev 7-5. Humbert enjoys playing in Australia with the surface suiting his game very well.

He came back strong in the 2nd set winning it 7-5 and forcing the decider where he played some brilliant tennis. It was another tiebreak and this time around it was the Frenchman who won it 7-2 for a major upset. Humbert is one of the best tie-break players on the Tour posting impressive numbers since he became pro.

Medvedev was still able to pull Russi through as he and Safiulllin bested the French combination of Roger-Vasselin and Martin in the doubles. In other news, the USA defeated Canada comfortably with Isner and Fritz delivering crucial points against Schnur and Auger-Aliassime. Shapovalov was slated to play Isner but ultimately pulled out before the match.
