Draw released for WTA Melbourne Summer Set 1 featuring Osaka and Halep

The WTA season recommences over this next week with the Melbourne Summer Set dual tournament set to take place on the site of the Australian Open.

Taking place between 04-01-2022 and 09-01-2022, it sees the field for both 250's split into two with Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep headlining Melbourne Summer Set I.

Also in tandem will be Adelaide International with many of the top names warming up there over the next week including Ashleigh Barty as well as the rematch between Paula Badosa and Victoria Azarenka.

But for Osaka who returns after curtailing her season early after the Olympics, it will be Alize Cornet first of all.

Halep could face her compatriot and rising Romanian star, Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round with a qualifier first up and Arina Rodionova for Ruse in the first round.

Other ties feature Andrea Petkovic facing Liudmila Samsonova, Vera Zvonereva being the first test for Camila Giorgi and Viktorija Golubic facing Alison Riske.
