Carlos Alcaraz and
Marin Cilic played well past midnight in New York with the Spaniard emerging victorious in five sets.
It took quite a bit of effort from Alcaraz to take down an inspired Cilic who was playing a very strong match. Asked after the match, where he found the drive for it, Alcaraz responded that he was not sure but he never lacked belief in himself:
“Honestly? I don’t know yet, but I believed in myself all the time. Marin was playing unbelievable, but the support was crazy. Without you guys it wouldn’t be possible.”
Next up for Alcaraz will be Jannik Sinner, a player who defeated him comfortably at Wimbledon and in the Umag final not long ago. The Italian seems to have found something over Alcaraz and the Spaniard expects another tough one:
“I played a couple of times against him. A great player, I lost twice [to him] in the last two months so I will have to be ready for this battle. It’s going to be really tough.”
