In his last match on the Tour so far this year, a former three-time Major champion Andy Murray lost to Andrey Rublev in Rotterdam in straight sets.
An in-form Russian scored a 7-5, 6-2 triumph in an hour and 34 minutes, overpowering the Briton in the opener and sailing towards the finish line in set number two. In a recent interview, Andy said that he blew the match and messed it up, not happy with how he performed from the opening set's closing stages.
Rublev saved all three break chances and earned three breaks that carried him home, gaining momentum at 5-5 in the opener and never let it down. Andrey fired 24 winners and 12 unforced errors, and Andy couldn't match that pace, spraying too many mistakes and losing ground behind the second serve. They needed almost 50 minutes to reach 5-5 before Rublev moved in front following Murray's costly double fault.
Andy had a chance to extend the set, creating two break chances in game 12 and blowing them both before Rublev closed the set with a forehand winner. The Russian had the upper hand in set number two, securing two breaks and moving over the top with a forehand winner at 5-2.
