Dominic Thiem arrived in Argentina withouth a single win this season but he got his first one by beating Alex Molcan in two sets 7-6(4) 6-3.
It's been a struggle lately for Dominic Thiem as the Austrian is yet to find his best tennis. He had some good moments in the past couple of months but it's far from the type of tennis he used to play on a regular basis. Thiem arrived winless in Argentina and his favourite clay gifted him the first win of the season:
“I felt well here from the first moment I played here in 2016. I think that conditions here – the balls and the clay court and the stadium – it fits well to my game. Obviously, when I won two titles here, the confidence is automatically a bit higher. But still, I came in here with no match wins this season against a very good opponent, so it’s a good win for me and I am happy."
Thiem is not thinking about the past or future, he is trying to stay present in the moment:
“I try to focus on the present moment, which is the most important. And, obviously, I had great moments in my career to be proud of, but now, in this moment, I am in 2023, and I want to get the best out of it."
