A very important match was won by Krawietz and Puetz yesterday that sent Germany to the Davis Cup Finals semifinal in Madrid.
After the nations split the singles it all came down to the doubles and despite being considered underdogs Krawietz and Puetz were able to play some stellar tennis to win the match. It was a close one in both sets and in both sets, the British were the ones on top early in the tiebreak. They had a 6-4 and 5-0 lead in both tiebreaks but lost both.
After the 2nd one Krawietz said:
"Honestly I don't know how we pulled back from that 0-5. It's tough of course but we just said 'point by point' and maybe we have a chance in this tiebreak. It's a crazy game at times."
German Davis Cup Captain Michael Kohlmann said:
"I think you could see after the match point that a lot of pressure fell off. I am super happy because the last time it was in 2007 and I played that year. This team is much better so I think they deserved it. I am extremely happy and extremely proud."
