"I had a little bit of nerves" admits Shapovalov on ATP Cup final

Denis Shapovalov was very emotional during the ATP Cup trophy ceremony admitting that winning the event meant a lot to him.

Both him and Auger-Aliassime skipped over the Davis Cup Finals in December citing fatigue but they repaid their loyalty to Canada with a brilliant run here. Shapovalov himself admitted that he felt quite nervous before the final as he was set to play against Carreno Busta, a man against whom he has struggled considerably in the past.

He said:

“(I had) a few nerves going out. Obviously, I’ve got a tough record against Carreno Busta, so I knew it was going to be a tough match,” Shapovalov said.

Despite that, he was able to produce a spectacular effort to take down the Spaniard in two sets giving his nation the 1-0 lead. When Auger-Aliassime won the 2nd match Canada was declared the winner and Shapovalov was extremely happy lifting the trophy.
