Carlos Alcaraz is not complaining about his dramatic rise but the Spaniard is surprised that it happened quite quickly.
The Spaniard is currently ranked firmly in the top 10 with a chance to even finish top 3 in the world by the end of the year. It comes after Alcaraz won the ATP 500 event in Rio de Janeiro, the ATP 500 event in Barcelona and the ATP 1000 event in Madrid. He's currently playing at another ATP 500 event in Hamburg with a decent chance to win that one and ahead of the event, he reflected on his rise.
“The truth is that a little, yes. I have had surprising results this year, I did not expect to evolve as fast as I did, but I work for it.“As I always say, hard work pays off, although in my case it was all a bit quick and surprising.”
It did not change much in his approach and he's unbothered by the pressure because his goals and aspirations have always been high:
“I know what my goals are, I don’t think too much about the pressure that comes from outside. I try to keep learning, keep adding experiences and always try to give my best version in each game. I feel that I play for myself, for my team and my family, I don’t focus on the expectations that people may have. I just push it away.”
