Rafael Nadal and Emma Raducanu secured the tennis ESPY's over some strong competition marking Nadal's 3rd win and Raducanu's first.
The ESPY awards were held recently and as always tennis is part of the deal. The Sport gets two awards that are awarded to the best on the men's side and the best on the women's side. Nadal was the favourite to take the award in the men's category of best athlete as the Spaniard had a tremendous year so far. Other nominees included Felix Auger-Aliassime, Dylan Alcott and Carlos Alcaraz.
Nadal won the award in the end and it's the 3rd time he's won it. Pretty good overall but still far away from Djokovic's 5 wins and Federer's 9 wins. On the WTA side of things, it was a bit harder to decide. Emma Raducanu was nominated along with Iga Swiatek, Ashleigh Barty and Leylah Fernandez. Many wondered whether Swiatek would be recognized for a brutal year so far but she wasn't.
It was Emma Raducanu who took the award home which is fine but some fans were unhappy considering that outside of the US Open, Raducanu did not do much. It's the first time the Brit has won the award and fans will be hoping for more. Unlikely she will get to the 10 of Serena Williams but you never know.
