Tennis superstar
Leylah Fernandez will be unable to compete against American
Coco Gauff in a previously scheduled exhibition match at the
Atlanta Open, as the Canadian is still recovering from an injury.
Fernandez suffered a foot fracture at the French Open, and was spotted walking on crutches soon after. Although she hoped to be cleared in time for the exhibition match, which takes place on July 24, Fernandez recorded a message for her fans and revealed her doctor ordered her to not play any competitive tennis for another three weeks.
The 2021
US Open runner-up will be replaced by American Taylor Townsend, although Fernandez hopes to be completely recovered in time for the last Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows.
The Atlanta Open runs from July 25-31, 2022 and is an ATP-exclusive event that is used as a warm-up for the US Open.
